Privacy Policy

FareFinder ("we", "us", "our") is a New Zealand rideshare price comparison service available at farefinder.co.nz. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights.

Account information

When you create a FareFinder account, we collect your name and email address. This information is stored locally on your device and is used only to personalise your experience (e.g. displaying your name in the app). We do not transmit your account details to our servers or share them with third parties.

Information we collect

FareFinder is designed to work with minimal data collection. We collect the following:

• Location data — your pickup location, used only to estimate fares and find nearby drivers. This is processed on-device and not stored on our servers.
• Trip history — your recent searches (pickup and dropoff locations) are stored locally on your device using your browser's localStorage. We do not transmit this to our servers.
• Feedback — if you submit feedback through the app, your message is sent to us via Formspree and received at our email address.
• Connected app details — if you choose to connect your Uber, DiDi, Bolt, or YourRide account, the name and email you enter are stored locally on your device only. We do not have access to your passwords or account credentials.

Information we do not collect

• We do not collect or store your name, email address, or any personal details unless you submit feedback
• We do not use cookies for tracking or advertising
• We do not sell your data to third parties
• We do not create user accounts or profiles

Third-party services

FareFinder uses the following third-party services to function:

• Uber API — to retrieve real-time fare estimates. Uber's privacy policy applies to data shared with their API: uber.com/legal/privacy
• OpenStreetMap / Nominatim — for address search and geocoding. No personal data is sent beyond the search query.
• OSRM — for route distance calculation. No personal data is sent.
• CARTO — for map tiles. No personal data is sent.
• Formspree — for receiving feedback submissions. See formspree.io/legal/privacy-policy
• Vercel — for hosting. Standard server logs (IP address, request time) may be retained by Vercel per their policy.

Location data

When you use FareFinder, you may choose to share your device's location to auto-fill your pickup address. This location is used only to show your position on the map and estimate fares. It is not stored on our servers or shared with third parties beyond what is required to fetch fare estimates.

Children's privacy

FareFinder is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to this policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. The date at the top of this page reflects the most recent update. Continued use of FareFinder after any changes means you accept the updated policy.

Your rights (New Zealand)

Under the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020, you have the right to access and correct any personal information we hold about you. Given that FareFinder stores data locally on your device, you can clear this at any time by clearing your browser's local storage.
